THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sriram Venkitaraman IAS who was under suspension following the controversial drunk driving accident that caused the death of journalist K M Basheer, has been reinstated into service. His new appointment will be in the health department. He will be in charge for COVID-19 preventive activities. The order related to it will be issued soon.
The officer had approached the administrative tribunal following the extension of his suspension by the state government. IAS officers had budged pressure on the state government to reinstate him.
Journalist Basheer died on August 3 last year after the car driven by Sriram struck him. Sriram was drunk at the time of the incident. Sriram is the first accused in the case and his friend Wafa Firoz is the second accused.
