THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Met department has forecast heavy rains in Kerala on Friday. On the basis of the warning, it has declared Yellow alert in eight districts such as Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Kannur.
Within the next 24 hours, there are chances for strong rain in isolated places with quantity ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5mm.
Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Thrissur will be under Yellow alert on Saturday.
The Met department has issued an advisory to people living in areas prone to landslides, mud caving and those living along river and seas shores to be extra alert as there are chances for strong wind and rains.
The fishermen along Kerala and Lakshadweep borders have been asked to keep off the sea as strong winds with a speed of 40 to 50 km/hr may hit the area from South-West direction.
Earlier, weather experts had predicted that the monsoon will lose steam in the coming days though it will gain strength by June 15. They also hinted at chances for flood, this time too.
