ALAPPUZHA: Minister G Sudhakaran at a press conference has said that his wish is to stop toll collection at all centres in the State. “Toll is not necessary for a road and bridge. This government stopped toll in 28 places and ten more are remaining.” The toll is usually collected for repaying money taken as loan by Road and Bridge Corporation. “The government’s wish is to pay back this loan and to do away with toll collection,” he said.

Currently, there are no toll at Kollam and Alappuzha bypass roads. “The government should have got Rs 1500 crore via tolls that were stopped. The government has the right to cancel tolls for construction below Rs 100 crore. For projects above that amount, it is the Centre that will take a decision. I think, the Centre will also follow State’s line,” he added.
