Two women from Tripura gang-raped by six men in Assam's Karimganj, five arrested

KARIMGANJ: In a shocking incident, two women from Tripura were allegedly gang-raped by six men when they were returning after meeting their ailing mother at a hospital in Assam. The incident took place in Karimganj district of Assam.

Karimganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Mayank Kumar, said five men have been arrested in connection with the crime. A hunt is on to nab the sixth accused.

"The two sisters from Tripura visited their mother at the Cachar Cancer Hospital and Research Centre in Silchar on Friday morning and hired a taxi while returning from the facility. After entering Karimganj, the driver took them to an under-construction building. Four more persons were waiting at the spot in Baraigram area of Nilambazar and they took turns to rape the two women on Friday night, a report in PTI quoted the SP ass saying.

According to police, they initially had information that only the driver was in the car. Later, police came to know that one more person was in the car and he too raped the women along with other accused.

After gang-raping the women, the accused also snatched all their belongings including money, mobile phones and fled from the spot. Police filed an FIR on Saturday and immediately arrested one accused. Later, Four more persons were arrested by police.

The rape survivors were sent for medical examination.
