Kumbakudi Sudhakaran, the spearhead of Congress against Communist politics, is not only a roaring lion in the party but also a close ally of controversy. Controversies and legal tussles are not new to this seventy-three-year-old.
Born in 1948 in Nadal, Kannur to V Ravunni and K Madhavi, Sudhakaran entered politics through KSU. He became the powerhouse of Congress in Kannur by seizing Kannur DCC from Karunakaran's right-hand man N Ramakrishnan.
This Congress leader was named in several cases like the EP Jayarajan murder attempt case, the Savoury Hotel bomb attack, and the Nalpadi Vasu murder case. Sudhakaran even made a narrow escape from an assassination attempt near Peravoor in Kannur. Sudhakaran even went on to say that he witnessed a judge being offering a bribe at a reception organized by the UDF for Balakrishna Pillai, who had returned from jail in the Edamalayar case. Though his enemies thought that he had landed in huge trouble, nothing happened. The forcible release of the accused in the sand smuggling case from the Valapattanam police station was not only controversial but also viral.
K Sudhakaran is known for his toughness, uncompromising stance, speeches that are capable to motivate party workers, and the controversies created by these speeches. The responsibility to lead the party during these tough times is both an opportunity and a challenge for Sudhakaran. His toughness will help inspire the workers and build the party from the grassroots level.
