THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM leadership has opposed Health Minister Veena George's move to include a former colleague of hers as press secretary in the personal staff.

The former colleague, also a media person, was also instrumental in Veena George's election campaign in Aranmula. The minister had handed over the recommendation to include her in the personal staff to the party

At first, the party did not object. However, the CPM Kozhikode district unit soon raised a complaint by pointing out that this person had RMP links. Following this, the CPM leadership intervened and opposed the move.

Shortly after Veena George took over as minister, K Sajeevan, a CPM state committee member and AKG center office secretary, was appointed private secretary. The personal staff of the ministers are appointed based on recommendations from various district units of the party.
