THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Mariam Rasheeda, a Maldivian woman who was tortured in connection with the ISRO espionage case, has accused the then head of the investigation team, Siby Mathews, and his team of fabricating the espionage case. The letter of the then LPSC Director was also produced in the District Principal Sessions Court to prove this. Mariam Rasheeda filed the letter against the bail plea of Siby Mathews.

It was the then LPSC Director AE Muthunayakam who wrote a letter to Siby Mathews, the head of the Special Investigation Team. Mariam Rasheeda claimed that nowhere in the letter dated November 25, 1994, was it stated that any important documents were leaked or stolen from the ISRO. Siby Mathews took over as the head of the investigation team on November 15, 1994. It is clear from the letter that the two met after that.

All important orders related to cryogenics since 1990 were handed over to Siby Mathews along with the letter. Mariam Rasheeda claimed that she and others were unnecessarily tortured in the name of espionage which was not even alleged by the LPSC director. Muthunayakam had also handed over orders which prove that the duties of R Karunanidhi and K Lakshminarayanan, who were in charge of the cryogenic technology project, were handed over to Muhammad Muslim and M Annamalai.

District Principal Sessions Judge K Krishnakumar will hear the anticipatory bail petition of Siby Mathews on May 26.
