THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has responded to the controversy over the inclusion of a text on Hindutva in the Kannur University syllabus. He justified the action of Kannur University by saying that it would give students an opportunity to learn different ideas.
"Indian culture is rooted in diversity. Only when students have the opportunity to learn about all kinds of thoughts will their thinking ability develop and they will be able to come up with innovative ideas. Only those with such innovative ideas can contribute to the progress of the world," the Governor said.
The Governor, who said that intolerance is expressed by those who are unwilling to learn different perspectives, added said that the right way is to express disagreements after understanding things. The controversy stemmed from the inclusion of books by Golwalkar and others in the section on Hindutva in the MA Governance and Politics curriculum at Kannur University.
