KOTTAYAM: An epileptic patient, who was abandoned on the road by his relative following an accident, died without getting treatment. The deceased has been identified as Athirambuzha native R Binumon (36). Binumon lied on the road for 8 hours. Following this, Binumon's relative Rajesh was taken into police custody and released after collecting the statement.

The relatives alleged that there was some mystery in the incident. The accident took place at a distance of 50 meters from Ettumanoor police station on Wednesday midnight.

According to police, Binu and Rajesh were under the influence of alcohol. The relatives also said that the two had reached the relative's house in Pattithanam at night.

The autorickshaw was heading towards Pattithanam when it hit a footpath on MC Road and overturned. Rajesh and the locals pulled Binu out of the autorickshaw and put the autorickshaw back in its position.

The locals returned after making Binu sit in front of a nearby mobile shop. Meanwhile, CCTV footage obtained from the area showed Rajesh trying to push Binu into the auto and Binu kicking Rajesh. By around 3 am, Rajesh was seen leaving the area in the autorickshaw. Later, Binu collapsed after his health condition worsened.

It was some of the locals who informed the police about the incident by Thursday morning. Following this, Binu was taken to the Medical College Hospital in a fire force ambulance. However, he was soon pronounced dead. The body kept in the mortuary will be handed over to the relatives today after postmortem. Binu's father is the late Ravi. Mother: Viji. Sister: Chinnu.
