Factionalism in party turns violent, branch secretary’s car damaged, bike set ablaze, 12-member team behind attack

ALAPPUZHA: Some untoward incidents were witnessed in Alappuzha district following severe factionalism that broke out after the CPM party meet. Party leader’s vehicle was attacked in Ramangari. The miscreants reached the house of Saravanan, Ramangiri branch secretary, and set his bike on fire. In the attack by a 12-member team, Saravanan and DYFI regional president Renjith sustained injuries. The attack was when they were travelling in the car. They also smashed his car.

They stopped the car and smashed the vehicle. The assailants who reached his house, doused petrol on his bike and set afire. Saravanan sought treatment at the taluk hospital. Ten branch meetings under the Ramangari Local Committee could not be held due to clashes between the activists. The victims have lodged a complaint with the police.
