THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An amount of Rs 3 crore has been sanctioned for self-employment loans to persons with disabilities through the 'Kaivalya' scheme. Kerala Kaumudi had published the news about the delay in giving loans due to lack of funds. This prompted the government to take immediate action. The allotted Rs 3 crore will be handed over to the Handicapped Persons' Welfare Corporation.
With the disbursement of funds, about 500 people from different districts will get loans. The loan is provided to the beneficiaries through a one-time settlement scheme in collaboration with the Handicapped Persons' Welfare Corporation. The Department of Employment Exchange has asked the government for more money to lend to the rest. Its procedures are underway. So far 6954 applicants have been given loans under the 'Kaivalya' scheme launched by the government's Employment Department to uplift the differently-abled to the mainstream of society.
