NEW DELHI: Amid the surge in Omicron cases in the country, there are growing concerns over the possibility of a third wave of Covid-19. Ten cases were reported from Karnataka, Delhi and Gujarat, taking the tally of the virus to 83. Out of the new cases, five were reported from Karnataka and four from Delhi and one in Gujarat. Maharashtra has the highest number of confirmed Omicron cases with 32. 17 cases were reported in Rajasthan and five in Kerala. Omicron was first confirmed in Karnataka on December 2.
A recent study found that Omicron has a 70% higher transmission capacity than the Delta variant. The centre is taking strong measures to prevent the spread of the disease. Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla reviewed the current Covid situation in the country and the preparation of health infrastructure in the union territories.
