Omicron JN1 will spread rapidly; out of 1701 covid cases in country, 1523 are in Kerala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With Omicron JN1, a fast-spreading covid variant, getting reported in Kerala as well, health experts are warning that caution should be maintained. It has been found that the highly proliferative Omicron JN1 can overcome acquired immunity. At present, the number of Covid patients is increasing in the state. 1523 cases have been reported in Kerala so far.

It is estimated that most of the newly reported cases of covid in the world are the JN1 variant. The presence of Omicron JN1 was confirmed in a sample collected from a patient from Thiruvananthapuram last month. The health department explained that there is no need to worry about this.

Last day, 199 people were confirmed to have covid in the state. The total number of active cases in the country is 1701. Out of this 1523 have been reported in Kerala. The health department explained that the high figure is because more tests are being conducted in Kerala compared to other states.

The number of covid cases in Kerala has increased since last month. Since Omicron JN1 has been confirmed in the state, the health department has decided to increase the number of covid tests.
