KOCHI: The migrant workers of KITEX Group in Kizhakkambalam damaged three police jeeps. One of it has been completely set ablaze. Five police officials including circle inspector Shajan of Kunnathunadu sustained serious injuries. The circle inspector suffered serious head injuries.
The injured policemen were rushed to a nearby private hospital by the locals. Nearly 500 migrant workers unleashed violence in the area. The attackers were in an inebriated state. The incident happened late last night.
A dispute broke out between the workers in between Christmas celebrations and this ended in a scuffle. On being informed, the police rushed to the spot and soon the workers turned towards them. Stones were pelted and the cops were injured.
More police force reached the spot and took the workers into custody. The situation is presently under control. Aluva rural SP K Karthik said the health condition of the police officials are satisfactory.
