CPM Idukki district conference witnesses demand for separate minister for Home department

cpm

IDUKKI: Delegates who attended the CPM Idukki district conference have demanded a separate minister for the Home Department. The demand came in the wake of the recent flaws of the state police that tarnished the image of the LDF government.

According to the delegates, the actions of the police force were undermining the good work of the government. The intelligence system has turned out to be a complete failure. The delegates also pointed out that a section of the police was working against the government. The delegates also lashed out at the Police Association. They alleged that the association was unable to identify and control those spying on the government and those trying to insult the government.

Some delegates also demanded that the party should intervene to make the police system more efficient. The Idukki district police chief was also criticized during the conference. Delegates said police officers from other states were protecting their interests.

CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan openly admitted that there were lapses on the part of the state police. Kodiyeri, who assured the delegates that the party would intervene in the issue, added that he would talk to the Chief Minister and find a solution immediately.

Delegates criticized the Idukki district committee for delaying disciplinary action against S Rajendram. The delegates raised the criticism by pointing out the action taken against G Sudhakaran in Alappuzha. Lashing out at the Forest and Revenue Departments, the delegates said that these departments were not functioning in line with the policy of the LDF government. The district conference will conclude today. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will attend the public meeting to be held in the evening.
