OTTAWA: A huge protest erupted in Canada’s capital city against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Covid-19 vaccine mandates and other public health restrictions. Thousands of protestors gathered on Parliament Hill in Ontario calling for an end to the mandates. Truck drivers form the majority of protesters. Numerous people from different parts of the country are on foot to the national capital region.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his family have been moved to an undisclosed location amid security concerns. Even though the protests are peaceful, the police are on high alert for possible violence. The prime minister was in isolation as one of his children was tested Covid positive.
The protesting truck drivers sounded their horns non-stop and demonstrated banners. They raised slogans against the prime minister and the government. The new protest collective has been named ‘Freedom Convoy’.
The truckers who come to Canada from America should get vaccinated. About 90 percent of Canada’s cross-border truckers and 77 percent of the population have had two Covid vaccination shots, Trudeau had announced earlier. It is against this that the protests began. The police have said that the protesters are around ten thousand, but the real number is much higher.
