PATHANAMTHITTA: The crime branch has launched an investigation in Hemant Nagar in Gujarat and Haridwar in Uttarakhand following the revelation that the Chacko murder case accused and fugitive Sukumara Kurup is alive. A team, led by Alappuzha crime branch circle inspector Numan, will set off to these places this week.
Renzim Ismail, a beverage shop manager in Pathanamthitta, had revealed his suspicion about a sage, whom he befriended in Hemant Nagar, 15 years ago. He said it was Sukumara Kurup and that he had been residing in Haridwar for the past few months. Renzim had also written a letter to the chief minister in January in this regard. Kurup’s neighbor had said in his statement that the sage in Haridwar might be Kurup. The neighbor’s brother, who lives in Poojapura, Thiruvananthapuram, was Kurup’s classmate. His statement also said that his sister, a Border Security Force (BSF) officer, had seen Kurup in Rishikesh, five years ago.
Renzim had revealed that he had met and befriended the suspected monk in 2007, while working as a teacher in Hemant Nagar. He had also said that the man suspected to be Kurup was seen in a travel vlog on Haridwar sages, last December. A detailed investigation will be conducted at both locations based on the statements, said CI Numan.
