NEW DELHI: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the budget of Union Territory (UT) Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) before the parliament, on Monday. A statement of the estimated receipts and expenditure for the financial year 2022-23, will presented by afternoon.
The central government’s major agenda is to gain the house’s approval for the Jammu and Kashmir budget. The Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill is also likely to be passed by the house. Both the houses met at 11 am on Monday following the decline in Covid cases in the country and the possible end of the third wave.
The budget session of the parliament had begun on January 29 with a speech by the President. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the union budget on February 1. The second part of the budget session began on Monday.
The ruling party will be attending the session with the confidence of having won a landslide victory in the assembly polls in five states. Meantime, the members of the opposition, who have suffered heavy setbacks, are less likely to unite against the government on various issues. In the session, the Congress will raise the issues of the rising unemployment and the reduction in the interest rate of provident funds, said Congress parliamentary party leader Mallikarjun Kharge.
