THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Around Rs 350 crore was charged as fine for not following Covid protocols in the state. Out of which, Rs 213 crore was fined for not wearing masks. Violations of Covid restrictions were fined between Rs 500 and Rs 2000.

From March 2020 till the last day, action was taken against a total of 65,99,271 people for violating Covid regulations, which accounts for about 25 percent of the state’s population. A total of 42,73,735 people were caught for not wearing mask alone.

The central government had exempted Covid restrictions from the scope of the National Disaster Management Act with effect from March 31 onwards owing to the decline of Covid cases in the country. Even though cases and fines are avoided, people should continue wearing masks, directed the Union Health Ministry last day.
