THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister PA Mohammad Riyas on Thursday said that a decision has been taken to give a fixed percentage of the contract amount as a bonus to the contractors who complete the public works on time.
The decision was taken after discussions between the minister and the representatives of the contracting organizations of the Public Works Department. The Minister said that this would help in ensuring greater quality in maintenance work, timely completion of contracts and transparency. A government order in this regard will be issued soon. It is intended to be implemented from the 2022-23 financial year.
A training program will be implemented to introduce the contractors to the new possibilities of the technology. It will be planned by KHRI. Concerns of contractors over the rising cost of construction materials will be discussed with the Finance Minister. The department is planning to implement a running contract for the first time in the country to change the roads in Kerala in a pit-free manner. The Minister said that Kerala needs the K-Rail project and the people will take up the project as the development of the National Highways.
