Violation of code of conduct: Notice to minister PA Mohammed Riyas; complaint filed by UDF

KOZHIKODE: Kozhikode district collector has issued a notice to minister PA Mohammed Riyas on UDF complaint of violation of the election code of conduct. The notice asks for a reply within a week. The basis of the complaint is the announcement made by the minister at the sports discussion forum held in the name of the sports fraternity at Nalanda Auditorium on Monday.

The minister said that the Left government has decided to upgrade the Kozhikode stadium to international standards. UDF Constituency Election Committee General Convener PM Niyas filed a complaint alleging that the new announcement was made against the rules while the code of conduct was in place.

The UDF leaders alleged that Kozhikode parliamentary candidate Elamaram Kareem and other CPM leaders took the videographer of the Election Commission who was recording the speech to the back of the stage and detained him for half an hour after the minister's speech. However, Mohammed Riyas responded that he had not violated the code of conduct. "What was said in Kozhikode is an old announcement. The good things done by the government will continue to be said," Mohammed Riyas told the media.
