Shawarma shop in Kasaragod closed, 20 kilograms of chicken found in paint bucket

raid

KASARAGOD: After raiding a Kasargod fish market and seizing and destroying 200 kg of stale fish, the Food Safety Department inspected more places in Kasaragod city.

A shawarma shop called Konchi on MG Road was closed. This is due to the inadequacy of cooking and the unhygienic atmosphere. Zam Zam hotel in the vicinity of the new bus stand was fined after a raid. 20 kg of chicken stored in a paint bucket was destroyed. Expired milk and eggs stored in unhygienic conditions were found. Twenty kilos of grilled chicken was also seized and destroyed from the Bake Palace Bakery at Press Club Junction. This is because of the unscientific nature of cooking.

An inspection by the Food Safety Department found that shawarma shops in many parts of the district were still operating with complete ease, despite food poisoning and the death of a child after consuming shawarma from the Ideal Food Point in Cheruvathur town.

The atmosphere in shawarma shops, some street food shops and hotels is so filthy that it creates conditions for deadly bacteria to enter. Waste heaps were found while entering the kitchens of such establishments as part of the inspection. The kitchens were littered with unclean utensils and dirty water.
