314 kg of unhygienic meat and 6240 kg of fish have been seized so far, notices issued to 717 institutions

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Inspections led by the Food Safety Department are continuing in the state. Health Minister Veena George said that the food safety officials carried out inspections at 253 institutions on Tuesday. The authorities took action against 20 institutions that do not have a license or registration and issued notices to 86 establishments. 31 kilograms of unhygienic meat were seized and destroyed. 26 samples were sent for testing.

During the last 9 days, 2183 inspections were carried out across the state and action was taken against 201 shops that do not have licenses or registrations. Notices were issued to 717 institutions. 314 kilograms of unhygienic meat was seized and destroyed. 185 samples had been sent for testing, the minister said.

So far 6240 kg of stale and chemically contaminated fish have been seized and destroyed as part of Operation Matsya. Out of 4169 inspections during this period, 2239 samples were collected and sent for testing. Notices were issued against 89 people. As part of Operation Jaggery, which was launched to detect adulteration in jaggery, 521 establishments were inspected. 137 surveillance samples of jaggery have been collected for expert laboratory testing.
