CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Wednesday welcomed the release of AG Perarivalan, a convict serving life imprisonment in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.
Soon after his release from the jail, Perarivalan and his mother arrived in Chennai to thank Stalin. They met Stalin at the Chennai airport and thanked the government for its support. CM Stalin received Perarivalan by embracing him.
Perarivalan came with his mother and father from his hometown of Jolarpet. Stalin responded that the release of Perarivalan was a victory for Tamil Nadu and federalism.
"The release of AG Perarivalan is a welcoming one. Perarivalan has lost over 30 years in jail and now he is to take fresh breath of freedom and I wish him well," Stalin told reporters here.
