KOZHIKODE: The Kasaba police arrested a female director who protested against the exclusion of her film from the third International Women's Film Festival organized by the State Film Academy. Director Kunjila Mascillamani protested on the inauguration stage.
The protest was while the guests were arriving for the opening ceremony which was held today at 6 pm.
She had written on Facebook in the morning that she would come to the film festival even though her film is not being screened and asked to give her a guest pass and an opportunity to speak. After reaching the theatre in the evening, she asked Academy Chairman Ranjith about the exclusion of her film and shared the conversation via Facebook live. In the video, Ranjith is also seen asking her to avoid recording.
The protest slogan was raised after that. She alleged that the government is treating her the same way they are treating K K Rema. She said that her film was delibrately excluded due to Chairman's political stand.
