PALAKKAD: A venomous snake crawled through the body of a fourth class student when she was in the classroom. The incident happened Monday morning at the Government Higher Secondary School in Mankara, Palakkad. The girl, who reached the school at 9.30 am accidentally stepped on it which was lying on the ground. The snake immediately curled on her leg and crawled through her body. When the girl screamed and shook her leg, the snake entered into an almirah. The teachers and the others who reached the spot hearing her cries beat the snake to death and rushed her to Palakkad district hospital. The doctors said there are no bite marks but the child will be under observation for 24 hours.

The snake entered the class from the nearby bushes. The authorities had not paid heed to the demand of the locals and the parents to clear the bushes. The locals are planning to stage strong protests against it. A student had died in a school in Bathery in Wayanad following a snake bite and this had sparked a controversy.
