Inspection to ensure quality of Shawarma; Minister gives direction for strict action

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister Veena George on Friday said that she has directed the Commissioner of Food Safety to strengthen inspections to ensure that shawarma is cooked as per the guidelines of the Food Safety Department. The Minister stated that everyone, including hotels, restaurants and street food vendors, should strictly follow the guidelines and action will be taken against those who do not follow the guidelines.

Meanwhile, the Food Safety Department will soon start inspections on the occasion of the Onam festival as part of the 'Good Food, Right of the Land' campaign. In the districts, under the leadership of the Assistant Food Safety Commissioner, the squads will be divided into several teams and will conduct inspections focusing on shops, commercial establishments and hotels.
