NEW YORK: Legendary tennis player Serena Williams has been knocked out of the US Open tennis in the third round. In women's singles, Williams conceded defeat to Australia's Ajla Tomljanovic. Serena lost with the score of 7–5, 6–7, 6–1.
This was Serena's last Grand Slam tournament. The player had earlier announced that she would retire after the US Open. In her 27-year career, Serena has won 23 Grand Slam titles.
Meanwhile, in the Grand Slam doubles, Serena and Venus Williams were crashed out the other day. In the first round, they were defeated by Czech Republic duo of Linda Nosková and Lucie Hradecká. The first set was a tight fight. 42-year-old Venus and 40-year-old Serena lost in the tiebreaker(6/7). Czech pair won with a score of 6-4 in the next set.
Serena and Venus were playing in doubles togetherfor the first time after 2018. The duo had earlier won 14 Grand Slam titles and 3 Olympic medals. This time they were handed a wild card entry into US Open.
