MELBOURNE: India's veteran player Rohan Bopanna along with Australian player Matthew Ebden won the men's doubles title by defeating Italy's Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori.At 43, Bopanna has become the oldest Grand Slam winner in history. The win came in straight sets for scores 7 - 6 (7-0), 7-5. The first set was won in a tie-breaker and the Indo-Australian pair bounced back to in the second set after the Italians took an early lead.
In 2017, Bopanna won the mixed doubles title with Canada's Gabriela Dabrowski at the French Open. Bopanna is the third Indian to win a Grand Slam in men's doubles. Former players are Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Pace. Sania Mirza also has a doubles title.
