THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Even though there are 500 vacancies, the Travancore Devaswom Board is not reporting it to the Recruitment Board. Candidates are accusing the Devaswom Board of maintaining daily wage earners by giving them a low salary and thus blocking the permanent appointment.

The aim of this is to sabotage the appointments through the Recruitment Board.

There are 300 vacancies for musical instrument artists in temples. Most of the artists are on a contract basis. When there are many candidates who have studied at the art centers under Travancore Devaswom Board and waiting for an appointment, the Devaswom Board is filling the vacancies with contract workers.

The state’s other devaswom boards are filling the vacancies through Recruitment Board.

There are other 200 vacancies to ‘Kazhakam’ post in the temples under Travancore Devaswom Board. These posts are also filled by contract workers. There are some who have been working for fifteen years. They are paid only one-fourth of the salary of a permanent post. According to the earnings of the temple, the maximum limit is Rs.300. Other devaswom boards are paying better.
