THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After the Vadakancherry accident, extra fittings including sound and light systems in tourist buses were removed and the Motor Vehicle Department has tightened inspections, which benefitted KSRTC. Many people have started booking KSRTC's Scania and low floor AC buses for weddings and tour trips. Thiruvananthapuram Central Depot has earned an income of Rs 18 lakh through this in the past one month. During this period 63 buses were provided for special service at minimum fare.

Ten AC low-floor buses were hired yesterday for the wedding of Hemanth, an IT employee from Bengaluru, a native of Kollam. The groom's family hired 7 buses to reach Changanassery from Kollam and the bride's family hired three buses from Karukkachal.

Rs 18,000 is the rate per bus for 100 km including GST.

Hemanth said that the current scenario against tourist buses is the reason for booking KSRTC buses and also it would provide an additional income to the corporation. About Rs 1.80 lakh was paid as rent for ten buses.

“Many people are approaching us for buses for wedding and tout trips,” said BS Shiju, Officer, KSRTC Central Unit.
