High Court Chief Justice recommends pension age of 58 for court employees

KOCHI: High Court Chief Justice, S Maniukumar, has recommended to the government to increase the pension age of the court’s employees from 56 to 58. A huge chunk of high court employees, including gazette officers are to be retired within two years. On October 25, the High Court Registrar hand handed the general recommendation to the Home Department Additional Chief Secretary on the orders of Chief Justice.

The recommendation says that as the proceedings of the HC is being digitalized, there is a need for the continuous service of experienced employees. It says that urgent action must be taken in this matter.

On September 24, the CM and the Chief Justice, S Manikumar, had discussed about the administrative issues of the High Court and the lower courts. The recommendation to increase the pension age follows this meeting. To examine the suggestions given during the meeting attended by the CM, the Chief Justice constituted a committee of judges. Their decision is also taken into consideration for the Chief Justice’s recommendation.
