THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Raj Bhavan sent back the ordinance for the removal of the governor from the post of chancellor of the universities in Kerala. The government had earlier clarified that if the governor does not sign the ordinance, the bill would be introduced in the assembly session.

But the governor also took a stand that he will not sign the decision to remove him from the position of chancellor whether it is a bill or an ordinance. Governor Arif Mohammad Khan also stated that if the legislation is aimed only at him, he will send it to the President.

The government came up with an ordinance to remove the governor from the post of chancellor and appoint experts in their respective fields as chancellors instead. This was due to the tussle between the government and the governor over the appointment of the university VC.
