Gold worth 2.5 crore and money seized in raid from gold merchant’s house in Malappuram; smuggled via diplomatic channel, says ED

MALAPPURAM: The Enforcement Directorate said the gold seized in the raid in Malappuram was smuggled through the diplomatic channel. The ED had conducted an inspection at four jewelleries and house of Aboobacker Pazhedath of Malappuram, the other day.

Five kilograms of gold worth 2.5 crore was seized from Aboobacker’s house and jewellery shops. The gold was found concealed in a secret vault. More than Rs 3 lakh were found along with it.

The investigating officials finding is that Aboobacker smuggled the gold with the help of M Sivasankar, former principal secretary to the chief minister. Aboobacker was with Swapna Suresh, P S Sarith and Sandeep Nair, the accused in the case, informed the ED.
