State Congress forgets to start preparations even as general election is nearing

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: While the Left Front and the BJP have started preparations for the Lok Sabha elections, the state Congress has been mired in organizational problems and financial allegations. Party workers are upset about this.

Kerala is the state where the Congress is most likely to win in the Lok Sabha elections. However, many are raising criticism as the party is yet to start any preliminary preparations. In the meantime, the KPCC leadership found itself on the defensive following the allegation that the amount collected for the party fund was missing.

Money has gone missing from the amount collected in connection with Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra. As some people tried to put the blame on V Pratapachandran, who was the treasurer of KPCC, his family members complained that it was false propaganda made by some people that led to his death. Although Pratapachandran's children lodged a complaint with the DGP, the leadership intervened and withdrew the complaint.

After it was rumoured that the staff of a top leader was the one responsible for the financial irregularities, that leader was excluded. Yet the controversy is not contained.

Reorganization of the party at block and mandal levels has not been completed. Although the bargaining power of the groups decreased, the reorganization is not taking place because of the cold war among the leaders. It is learnt that the health issues of the KPCC president are also affecting the organizational activities. The other day, K Muraleedharan expressed his displeasure over the delay in reorganization and the strengthening of organizational problems.

Will face setback if party does not start preparations
Congress workers are worried that if the state leadership continues to be lazy, they may face a big setback in the general elections
Despite the allegations and controversies against the government, the CPM has come out with programs including house visits to overcome it all.
Despite being a state where the party has not much hope for a Lok Sabha seat, BJP has started preparations
