Argentina beats Canada in semi-finals and enters Copa America finals

NEW YORK: Defending champions Argentina reached the finals of the Copa America tournament after defeating Canada by two goals. Julian Alvarez and Lionel Messi scored for Argentina. Argentina will face the winners of the Uruguay-Colombia match in the final on July 15.

Julian Alvarez scored in the first half and Lionel Messi scored in the second half of the match held at the MetLife Stadium in New York. This is Messi's first goal of the tournament and Alvarez' second.

Argentina has reached the semi-finals after defeating Ecuador in the penalty shootout in the quarter thanks to goalkeeper Amy Martinez. Canada defeated Venezuela in a penalty shootout to advance to the quarterfinals. Argentina have reached the semi-finals in seven of their last eight major tournaments.
