BENGALURU: Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Gujarat Titans by five wickets to secure their fifth win in the IPL season. Chasing a big target of 206 runs set by Gujarat, RCB reached the total in 18.5 overs, losing five wickets. The match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium witnessed several historic records in IPL history.
Virat Kohli scored 81 runs and became the first player in IPL history to hit 800 fours. He reached the milestone with a boundary off Kagiso Rabada. Shikhar Dhawan (768) and David Warner (663) are behind him in the list of most fours. Kohli also became the first player to hit 300 sixes for a single franchise.
Batting first, Gujarat Titans were powered by a brilliant century from Sai Sudharsan, who scored 100 off 58 balls. During the innings, he broke Chris Gayle’s record to become the fastest player to reach 2,000 IPL runs, achieving the feat in 47 matches. His knock included 11 fours and 5 sixes.
In reply, RCB got off to a strong start with Kohli (81) and Devdutt Padikkal, who scored 55 off 27 balls. Kohli dominated the Gujarat bowlers early on. In the middle overs, Jason Holder dismissed Kohli, while Rashid Khan removed Padikkal. However, RCB maintained the required run rate and reached the target with five wickets in hand.
With this win, RCB improved their position in the points table. Despite Sai Sudharsan’s outstanding innings, it was Kohli’s record-breaking performance that earned him the Player of the Match award.
