MUMBAI: Chennai Super Kings produced a dominant all-round display to outclass arch-rivals Mumbai Indians and register their third win of the IPL season. Malayali star Sanju Samson headlined the victory with a scintillating century, etching his name in the record books. Chennai cruised to a comprehensive 103-run win, marking their biggest-ever victory margin against Mumbai.
Chasing a target of 208 runs set by Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians were bowled out for just 104 runs. Akeal Hosein was the standout bowler, taking four wickets and dismantling Mumbai’s batting lineup.
After losing the toss, Chennai opted to bat first. Sanju Samson delivered a brilliant performance, scoring 101 runs off 54 balls. This was his second century of the season, and he also became the first Chennai player to score a century against Mumbai Indians.
Samson started aggressively, smashing 19 runs in the fourth over bowled by Hardik Pandya. Chennai reached 73 runs in the first six overs. While players like Ruturaj Gaikwad (22), Shivam Dube (5), and Dewald Brevis (21) got out quickly, Samson remained steady. He reached his half-century in just 26 balls and completed his century with 16 runs in the final over.
Mumbai’s chase started poorly. They lost three early wickets- Quinton de Kock (7), Danish Malewar (0), and Naman Dhir (0)- with just 11 runs on the board.
A brief recovery came through Suryakumar Yadav (36) and Tilak Varma (37), who added 67 runs for the fourth wicket. However, Chennai’s bowlers quickly regained control. Once Tilak Varma was dismissed, Mumbai’s collapse accelerated. Hardik Pandya (1) and Rutherford (0) failed to make an impact. Mumbai slipped to 87/7 in 13.1 overs and were eventually bowled out for 104 runs.
