Reports say the Assembly of Experts has selected Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's second son, Mojtaba Khamenei, as the country's next Supreme Leader. The news was released by Iran International and Israeli media. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in a joint US-Israeli strike last Saturday.
Following Khamenei's death, the question of who would be the next Supreme Leader of Iran was widely discussed. One of the most discussed names among them was that of Khamenei's second son, Mojtaba Khamenei. Mojtaba Khamenei is a person with significant influence and experience in Iran's power circles. It is said that the clerical assembly chose Mojtaba after yielding to strong pressure from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Mojtaba, who has close ties to the military and the IRGC, has also been reported to have controlled the activities of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's office for years.
