CHENNAI: Tamilaka Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) party headed by actor Vijay is in controversy again. Police have registered a case against 40 TVK activists for holding a scooter rally in Pudukkottai without prior permission. The TVK rally was organized ahead of a program to distribute umbrellas to roadside vendors. The case was filed on charges of gathering without permission and obstructing traffic against the TVK district secretary and others.

Vijay's TVK party has been embroiled in the new case while facing heavy criticism over the Karur tragedy. The tragedy that claimed 41 lives took place on September 27. TVK had announced that it would provide Rs 5,000 every month to the families of those who died in the tragedy. Announcements were made that TVK would provide medical insurance to the families and bear the education expenses of the victims' children. The party also paid Rs 20 lakh into the account of the families of the deceased.

Vijay had met the relatives of those who died in the Karur disaster at a hotel in Mahabalipuram Poonjeri the other day. There was a lot of dissatisfaction within the party against Vijay for bringing the disaster victims to a hotel. The accusation was that it was not the behaviour of a true leader to bring the disaster victims to him and offer them help, instead of personally visiting their homes in the Karur district.
