CHENNAI: Following a resounding victory in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is gearing up for government formation. Led by actor-turned-politician Vijay, the party is reportedly working to secure a majority by seeking the support of winning Congress and independent candidates.
While coalition discussions are underway, political circles are buzzing with anticipation regarding which of the two seats Vijay will vacate. Vijay contested and won from both the Perambur and Trichy East constituencies. National media reports suggest that he is likely to retain the Perambur seat and resign from Trichy East.
According to electoral rules, Vijay must resign from one of the seats within 14 days, triggering a bye-election. Speculation is rife regarding his successor in Trichy East, with unconfirmed reports suggesting that actress Trisha may contest the seat. There are further rumours that should she win, she might be considered for the position of Deputy Chief Minister. However, TVK leadership has not officially confirmed these developments.
Adding fuel to the speculation, Trisha was seen visiting the Tirupati Temple on counting day, notably wearing a shawl in the colours of the TVK party flag. Following the announcement of the results, which coincided with her birthday, she visited Vijay at his residence in Neelankarai to offer congratulations.
Trisha, a long-time co-star and close associate of Vijay, has previously expressed an interest in politics. An old video of her stating an ambition to become Chief Minister has recently resurfaced and gone viral on social media.
