CHENNAI: Heavy rainfall continues to lash Tamil Nadu, resulting in flooding in low-lying areas. Large-scale waterlogging has been reported in many places, with significant flooding observed in Tiruvannamalai and Sriperumbudur. Widespread damage has been reported in Tirunelveli and Tenkasi districts. The incessant rainfall has led to extremely critical situations in several areas of the Tiruchirappalli district.
Following heavy rainfall, a holiday was declared for schools in Virudhunagar and Sivaganga districts on Friday. Intermittent rainfall is being reported in Chennai, but there's no cause for concern as of now.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that the low-pressure area is moving towards the Kanyakumari coast. It warned that the low-pressure area will weaken by Saturday, and rain will continue in Tamil Nadu until Friday night.
The IMD also warned that another low-pressure area is likely to form in the Bay of Bengal. A cyclonic circulation will develop over the southern part of Andaman. According to the forecast, this will lead to another spell of heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu. The state has been witnessing widespread rainfall and damage over the past month.
