CHENNAI: The Madras High Court upheld the Tamil Nadu government's decision to deny permission for RSS' route march on October 2, Gandhi Jayanti. The courts decision is on the contempt of court petition filed by the RSS against the denial of permission for the route march. The government informed the court that permission was denied for the route march due to the possibility of communal conflict. Taking this into account, the court directed that the route march could be held on November 6 instead of October 2.

The Tamil Nadu government had yesterday denied permission for the route march announced by the RSS on Gandhi Jayanti. The single bench of the Madras High Court had earlier given permission to conduct the route march after the government disallowed it citing security issues. Following this, the RSS approached the High Court against the government's decision. Earlier, the district police chief had denied permission for the route march in Tiruvallur district.
