Plus two student commits suicide by jumping from building for body shaming

CHENNAI: A plus two student committed suicide for being subjected to body shaming in school. His classmates teased him for being too fat and dark skinned and so he took the drastic step in front of his mother. Kishore (17), a student of Maharshi Vidyamandir School in Chetpet, died after jumping from the fourth floor of his apartment.

Kishore was very sad after facing continuous teasing and ragging from his classmates for the past three months for being too fat and dark-skinned. His mother told police that despite raising the issue of the boy being body shamed, the school authorities did not take any action.

Kishore, who climbed on the top of the apartment on the pretext of making a phone call, jumped down while his mother was watching. The police, who registered a case on the complaint, questioned the school principal, vice-principal and teachers. Based on the police report, the Commission for Protection of Child Rights has also started an investigation.
