NEW DELHI: India is all set to splash money to seal a deal to eradicate cross-border terrorism. The defence ministry is already on the move to sign huge deals in a bid to secure the country’s fortress. Defence equipment will be purchased under the emergency arms procurement system. Approval was given for the procurement of arms worth Rs 2,000 crore; however, this will be purchased for Rs 1,981 crore after negotiations with companies.
The move is to increase the security and offensive capabilities of the soldiers to counter terrorist threats and counter drones. A total of 13 contracts will be implemented for the purchase, including drones.
The urgently needed equipment includes the Integrated Drone Detection and Interdiction System, Low Level Lightweight Radar, Very Short Range Air Defense System and its launchers and missiles, remotely controlled surveillance drones, loitering munitions, small drones, bulletproof jackets, bulletproof helmets, armored vehicles, and night vision systems that can be mounted on guns.
The Emergency Procurement Mechanism is a system for procuring weapons without delay if required for the army's operations. It allows the army to directly procure weapons to deal with emergencies.
