NEW DELHI: Voting to elect India's 15th Vice-President has started. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the first to cast his vote. Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan is the NDA candidate and Justice B Sudarshan Reddy is INDIA bloc’s candidate.
Union ministers Rajnath Singh, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Kiren Rijiju, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, BJP MP Kangana Ranaut and Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav have also cast their votes.

The voting is from 10 am to 5 pm in Room F-101 (Vasudha) of Parliament House. The counting of votes will begin at 6 pm. The vacancy arose after Jagdeep Dharkar resigned with two years remaining in the post of vice-president. Jagdeep Dhankar became the Vice President in 2022 by securing 528 votes. The Vice President is elected by secret ballot by the Electoral College, which consists of members of both houses of Parliament. The Electoral College presently has 781 MPs (Lok Sabha - 542, Rajya Sabha - 239). The majority required is 391 votes.
