KOZHIKODE: In a major drug bust, the Excise Department seized MDMA worth approximately Rs 3.5 crore during a vehicle inspection near the Pantheerankavu toll gate. The drugs were found hidden inside the bonnet of a car. Two individuals, including a young woman, have been arrested in connection with the incident. The seizure, which took place around 2:30 PM today, included 3.312 kg of MDMA and 56 grams of narcotic pills.
The operation was carried out by the Excise Intelligence based on a secret tip-off. The arrested individuals have been identified as Shefeeq (35), a native of Kondotty, Malappuram, and Fathima Nasreen (20), a native of Adivaram, Thamarassery, Kozhikode. According to Excise officials, the drugs were being transported from Rajasthan for sale in the Kozhikode and Malappuram districts.
Shefeeq, who has a prior history of involvement in drug cases, reportedly drove the car to Rajasthan to pick up the shipment. To avoid suspicion during police checks, he instructed Fathima to meet him in Mangaluru and picked her up from there. Officials stated that the woman joined him with full knowledge of the drug trafficking plan. The investigation is now expanding to track down the drug suppliers based in Rajasthan. The arrest was made by the Excise team led by Special Squad Inspector S Sarath.
