KOCHI: In a fit of rage, a 47-year-old man brutally thrashed his mother, a heart patient, with a rolling pin for not making beef curry for him. The incident happened in Ernakulam city. Joony Koshy (76) of Chelippilly House in Amoolya Street near Madhava Pharmacy, who sustained injuries on her head and chest, sought treatment. The Ernakulam Central Police arrested her son Elwin Koshy on the complaint of Joony filed following the intervention of human rights activists. The incident happened on April 25th.
Joony Koshy lives with her two children. Her elder son and family were not at home on the day of the incident. Elwin, a collection agent in a private bank, came home with beef on the morning of 25th. He was drunk at that time. He asked his mother to make beef curry immediately.
However, when she said that she could not make it, Elwin in a fit of rage, hit her on her head and then kicked her on her chest. She ran out of the house and sought refuge in a nearby women's hostel. The son, who followed, brutally beat her inside the hostel with the chappathi rolling pin.
When she tried to run away from there, he stopped her and beat her brutally. The hostel inmates later rescued her. The hostel inmates had captured the visuals of the attack. The police came to know about this when the visuals reached the hands of the human rights activists. The police had earlier arrested Elwin for thrashing his mother. Joony was reluctant to file a complaint then.
Joony lives with a pacemaker. The police said the pacemaker was not damaged even though she was subjected to brutal attack. Elvin was released on station bail at night.
