11 fishermen fall into sea after boat capsizes in Muthalapozhi

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Another accident in Muthalapozhi after boat capsizes. 11 fishermen from a fishing boat fell into the sea Monday early morning. The boat that capsized belongs to Shakkir of Perumathura.

All the fishing net kept in the boat fell into the sea. The 11 fell into the sea while trying to take it. One among them was admitted in the hospital immediately. The rest were rescued soon after. They were taken to Chirayinkeezhu Taluk Hospital. The condition of them is satisfactory.

There was another accident in Muthalapozhi on Sunday also. Anaz (36) of Nedumkandam and Jijo (39) of Poothura and Vijeesh of Orissa met with the accident. Their injuries are not serious. The accident happened Sunday night at 8 pm. When they were returning after fishing, their boat capsized in the estuary following strong waves. The boat Velankanni belongs to Lijo of Poothura. Other fishermen rescued those that met with the accident. With the help of marine enforcement, they were shifted to Chirayinkeezhu taluk hospital.

Meantime, two accidents happened after Minister Saji Cherian informed the assembly that action has been taken to install two high mast lights and promised ambulance facility in view of the accidents at Muthalapozhi. There was an agreement to buy an ambulance with modern facilities on a regular basis to Muthalapozhi using MLA funds. The minister said the problem here will be resolved within one and a half years. Union Minister George Kurien, who visited the place, was stopped by Congress workers.
