Rejuvenation therapy, which has been going on for decades during monsoons, is being done with more care this year. The food and medicines are prepared according to Hastyayurveda Vidhi, an ancient text on elephant medical science composed by Maharishi Palakapya.
In modern times, allopathy has also been integrated into it. There will be a regular diet, exercise and oil bath for a month. Morning and evening walks for exercise and Ashta Choornam to ease digestion.
All post-covid physical ailments of the elephants have disappeared. This is the time when the treatment can be done properly as there are no precessions. Balanced meals are given as big balls. Guruvayur Devaswam's model of rejuvenation therapy in elephant management is happening till the 30th of this month. The elephants will be fed a balanced diet that is beneficial for their health and well-being.
Out of the 38 elephants in the Devaswam, 26 are currently undergoing rejuvenation therapy. 12 Elephants are in their Musth period. Once the Musth period is over, they will also be given therapy. Rejuvenation therapy costs Rs 11 lakh.
